“I want to order a bracelet, but I’m not sure how big my wrist is. How do I go about figuring that out?”

As you would imagine, I get this question a lot. It kind of comes with the territory of being a jewelry maker. So to determine the size of your bracelet, here are a few simple things you can do.

1. Get a measuring tape and measure your wrist. Seems like the most obvious answer to this question, amiright? But you’d be surprised at how many people don’t have a measuring tape. Anyway, I do have one and my wrist measures at exactly 7” - but a bracelet at exactly 7” would be too tight for me. I like my bracelets snug but not too tight and not too loose, so I would order a 7.25” bracelet. Anything larger than that would be too loose for my preference.

With that being said, if you order a bracelet from Moon & Mountain, DO NOT SEND THE MEASUREMENTS FOR YOUR WRIST SIZE, but rather, tell me what size you would like your bracelet to be.

2. If you don’t have a measuring tape but you have a ruler, get a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist to where you would be comfortable wearing a bracelet. Then, measure the string using the ruler to the spot where you would like your bracelet length to be.

3. If you don’t have a measuring tape AND you don’t have a ruler, get a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist to where you would be comfortable wearing a bracelet. Then, cut the string to the appropriate length and send the string to me along with your horse’s hair.

4. You can also measure a bracelet that you already own and I can make a bracelet to that size as well. This option is probably the most fool-proof way to getting a bracelet that would be comfortable to you, but if you don’t have a ruler or a measuring tape, do the string trick. Take a piece of string, hold it up next to the bracelet and cut it to the same length as the bracelet and send me that piece of string.

If you don’t feel like going through the hassle of doing any of that, then I’ll just assume you have a wrist similar to the size of mine and I’ll make a bracelet that fits my wrist (which according to my little blurb above, will be approximately 7.25” long).

Again, I will reiterate if you order a bracelet from Moon & Mountain, DO NOT SEND THE MEASUREMENTS OF YOUR WRIST SIZE, but rather, tell me what size you would like your bracelet to be. If you tell me the size of your wrist, the bracelet will be too small and it will not fit.

Now, if you are ordering a bracelet for someone and aren’t sure how to go about getting their measurements, you’re going to get creative in finding that out. I would just take the direct approach and say, “Hey so-and-so. I’m getting something special for you and I need to measure your wrist.” If they ask, “Is it a bracelet?” you can respond however you wish, but I would reply with, “No. I’m just trying to distract you into thinking it’s a bracelet. It could very well be a watch.” Again, you’ll have to be creative with this one, and I’m sure Google or Pinterest could tell you some better approaches to it than I could.

So there you have it - four simple ways to finding out your wrist measurements and one easy solution if you really don’t give a crap about the size.
